Styling A Vacation Home In Costa del Sol

So happy I got this project! Styling is my passion. This job was made so easy for me as my colleague Tiina M had already made the main job in interior designing, so the place was painted & furnished, only the final touch was missing. It’s amazing how much can be done by adding textiles - rugs, cushions, blankets - and plants, and with these the whole atmosphere is changing. I am known for adding lots of cushions to any interior. Cushions creates cosiness and it’s so easy to change the covers when you want to have for example a seasonal look.

In my opinion the bedroom should have those inviting vibes, which means the bed should look and feel like a nest - soft and kind of fluffy. As the bed is the centrepiece, the rest of the room should be rather minimal.

In this penthouse the gem is the huge rooftop terrace. Tiina M had already fixed this space as well, so I could work with the existing pieces of furniture up there. In Costa del Sol you can enjoy terrace life all year long, so it was obvious to create an oasis up there with lounging, dining and sun bathing areas.

I love the Scandinavian boho chic style. The colours are neutral and earthy, the materials are natural and the look is super cosy.

Moodboard for boho style

Making a moodboard helps me to show my client the atmosphere I’m going to create.

Styling A Rooftop Terrace In Costa del Sol

There are more than 320 sunny days in Costa del Sol. That means the sun doesn’t give any mercy to the materials. This terrace was styled a couple of years ago and now it needed some refreshing.

The hard work was already done when I showed up - that means painting and assembling - thanks to Mirai Kodit. My part was to bring a bit of cosiness and make the place alive again.

The neutral tones were changed to deep ocean blue, leafy forest green and foamy white. All perfect colours for a seaside terrace. Matching cushions and blankets together with rugs soften the look and feel of the space. It can be really hot up there during the summer days, so a bit of shade is welcomed. Fortunately the existing awnings were still usable. As it is a pretty windy place, I didn’t bring any umbrella up there, but with a strong and heavy base, that would also be a great choice.

The strong Andalusian sun makes it difficult to grow any other plants than different versions of cactus & succulent. I loved the idea to have a mural on the back wall. You can see it straight away when you enter the terrace. It’s a real eye-catcher. It’s fun and stylish - thanks to the talented artist Sannamari Prittinen.

Now the terrace is ready for the whole family to enjoy and have bbq nights together with friends.
